Wednesday Afternoon’s Materials

Stephanie Dakin - 4 Jan to 8 Feb - “Ways with Watercolour”

Stephanie will be starting with an introduction for those who are new to the medium, but this will be a great refresher for those of you who are used to watercolour.

Your materials for the first week will be:

  • watercolour paints - a box or tubes
  • decent watercolour brushes
  • watercolour paper - 140 lbs minimum
  • something to tape your paper to - the thick cardboard from the back of an old watercolour pad or a piece of wood are fine. It needs to be bigger than your paper
  • tape to fasten down your work - masking tape will do, but the old gummed paper tape is better.
  • a mixing palette - an old plate would suffice
  • a water container
  • paper towel

Our own Linden Smith - 15th February - ‘Make an Inspiration Book’

If you like messing around with mixed media - inking and bleaching, tearing and sticking - then this is for you. Linden saysIt will appeal to those who enjoy experimenting and achieving unexpected results or happy accidents but not to those who prefer precise or predictable outcomes’It is a hands-on workshop, not a demo, and you will take home a small book to inspire you with ideas for future work. You don’t have to buy anything! She has sent a sheet detailing what you need so click here for the information.

Nick Eveleigh - 9 May 2012 to 13 June 2012 - “Landscape and Buildings”

The first session is based on brickwork, stonework, etc.

The materials you require are: :

  • acrylic paints  [ watercolours will do but are more difficult to use for this exercise ]
  • watercolour paper
  • brushes etc.
  • masking fluid, dip pen, shaper, pencil
  • picture of interesting brickwork, etc. [ rustic ] not too complicated

Nick will have dip pens to borrow if you do not have one and also pictures to work from if you cannot find one. In case you don’t have a shaper, these are like a paint brush but the end is soft rubber rather than hairs/bristles. You can pick them up in art shops and also craft outlets such as Hobbycraft.
