Please note the change of program for Monday, 11th June. We will be having the much awaited demonstration by Rob Wilson. If you want a preview of what he does, then take a look at the links on our Notices page. Non-members welcome. Also note the details of the Emma King workshops, which I have added to our Notices page.
I found this rather nice demo of using alcohol and pastels at Wet Canvas (some of you may have tried this with Sandra Orme). It appears that you can use what the Americans call “household rubbing alcohol-Isopropanol” and we call Surgical Spirit instead of the branded alcohol Sandra recommended (and I’ve also seen that someone has tried vodka!). I’d guess you could buy surgical spirit in Boots, but I’ve seen people say online that Asda have it, so maybe you can get it at other supermarkets.
There are some great demos and hints and tips on Wet Canvas. It’s a huge American based site, but don’t let that put you off - some of the demonstrators are well-known British names. It covers all media, so it doesn’t matter what you are painting with. There is a permanent link to their Home page on our Links page. If you subscribe they will send you previews of online workshops and videos, some free some purchasable. It’s a good site - well worth a look.
If you have had a good look round our website and like what you see and would like to join, but are not already on the waiting list, then contact the Secretary via the email address on the Contact Us page. We are a successful art group and have been over-subscribed for several years, but each year we manage to invite a few new members to join us, so don’t think it is impossible. And you are welcome to join us for the Open Afternoon or Evening sessions in our programme. See Monday or Wednesday for details
